Griffining began with Robert Griffin III’s touchdown celebration on September 9, 2012, but fans soon recreated the seated, arms-raised pose far beyond a football field. The surviving Griffining.com submissions show the gesture at stadiums, landmarks, on mountains and along waterways. These are specific, owner-preserved fan photos restored to the site in October 2026—not generic illustrations of the meme.
About the dates: The dates here refer to original Griffining.com publication when visible in the surviving September 2013 archived-site recording. They are not necessarily the dates the photographs were taken, nor the 2026 WordPress restoration dates. Contributor names come from historical post credits where readable; any filename-only attribution is identified as provisional on its individual photo page.
From NFL stadiums to famous landmarks
The oldest recovered entries in this selection include @imakeitDRAIN Griffining in front of FedEx Field (November 7, 2012), and @dgackey inside Cowboys Stadium (December 7, 2012). By January and February, preserved posts put the pose before the Taj Mahal and Cinderella Castle. In each case, the contributor was restaging a football celebration in a new setting.

Mountains, rivers and places far from Washington
One January 1, 2013 entry shows @mattfrombaylor overlooking Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives; a January 4 post credited @RyanYohn over the Mississippi River. The original January 8 caption for @TheSheikh exclaimed, “Even Puerto Rico is #Griffining!” Other surviving captions place the pose at Mount Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, Bozeman, Montana, and the Kansas prairie.

The missing parts are part of the story
An additional owner-uploaded @emor09 image from Pisa survives, but its original publication date has not been verified. It should not be confused with that contributor’s different March 4, 2013 entry captioned “Golden Gate Griffining,” whose photograph is still missing. The separate @mattfrombaylor group image captioned “Griffining at the Wailing Wall” also remains unrecovered. We keep these distinctions visible rather than assigning the wrong photograph to a historical post.
